If you have a furry best friend that lives with you, being selective about plants you have is very important. There are hundreds of toxic plants for dogs. Here are a few of the most common plants you might be tempted to plant in your yard, or even have in your home.

Outdoor Plants 

– Apple Tree

When looking at that gorgeous apple tree in your backyard, you might not think it could be harmful. You may be surprised to know that the seeds inside apples, the leaves, branches and stems all contain cyanide. If Ingested this can make your dog very sick.

-Azaleas

These flowers are bright and beautiful in color, but are very harmful to dogs in small portions. Just eating a small portion of this flower has the potential for death of the animal that consumes it.

-Cherry Tree

 If your animal were to eat any part of the cherry tree it can cause serious harm. All parts of the tree are poisonous and if your dog eats a cherry pit, it can cause sickness and even shock.

-Daffodils & Tulips

The entire part of the Daffodil flower is toxic, but the most potency lies in the bulb. If eaten it can cause vomiting, diarrhea, low blood pressure, and ultimately seizing. Tulips cause the same symptoms.

-Daisy

Eating a daisy can cause increased salivation, vomiting, diarrhea, and ultimately loss of or uncoordinated movement for dogs.

Indoor Plants

-Calla LIly

These flowers are a common flower that is found in bouquets or flower arrangements around the Easter holiday. They can cause drooling, numbness, vomiting and diarrhea in your dog if ingested.

-Garlic

If you love garlic, and have it frequently stocked around your house-you will want to reconsider the storage to a place that is kept away from curious pets. Ingesting can lead to anemia, weakness and heart rate issues.

-Grapes

There are different types of grapes, but all are very toxic to dogs. If ingested, dogs can become very sick and lethargic while experiencing vomiting and then liver failure.

-Jade Plant

The new trend in home plant decor is succulents. The Jade plant being one of them.Consuming this plant and allin its family will cause pain, vomiting, and ultimately convulsions and decreased heart rate.

-Tomato

If you occasionally share some spaghetti sauce with your dog you don’t have too much to worry about. The stems and leaves of this plant are what are poisonous to dogs and also humans. Tomatoes can cause excessive salivation, slowed heart rate, upset stomach, and depression.

-Aloe

Using the gel of this plant for its healing properties topically would be fine. But if your dog ingests the leaves or roots it can cause vomiting and diarrhea.
