Summer is right around the corner. If you are a parent, you know that means hours upon hours of backyard fun.

Wondering how to make your backyard fun? Here are some tips and tricks to get you started.

Stump Steps

If you have extra wood lying around, or some stumps that need removal -this ones for you. Take the time to chop the stumps up into separate “steps” that are different sizes. Place them in a trail around your yard and paint the tops different colors. Take turns using these as steps and making games to go along with it.

Rock Pit

Use Some Pea Gravel or tiny rocks to make a sectioned off play zone. You can use larger rocks or big boards to make the perimeter. This is a great place for kids to play with construction cars and use other twigs and rocks to build things with.

Tic Tac Toe

Using a large flat tree stump, you can draw a tic tac toe board on the surface. Find some smaller rocks and pain them two different ways. This could look like the same design for X and a different design for O, or animals, or insects ,or the simple X and O. This can be your outdoor game that kids will spend hours and hours playing.

Picnic Area

Build your own kids picnic table or buy one at your local home goods store. Add an in ground umbrella for shade, or drape above a built in canopy. Create a welcoming space where your kids can eat their snacks or lunch outside.

Pool Noodle Race Track

Add to your backyard fun and grab a pool noodle and cut it in half lengthwise. Set it up as two ramps and have your kids find some matchbox cars. Invite some friends over for some mid day racing!

Outdoor Chalkboard

Find a large chalkboard you can place in the ground or hang outside. Keep colored chalk and some erasers nearby for kids to draw and color to keep their brains curious and active.

Outdoor Kitchen

Find some bowls and utensils that are sturdy and can be kept outside. Kids can use them to find leaves, twigs, dirt and other ingredients to make outdoor soup.

Rock Traffic

Find a bunch of rocks in all different flat shapes and sizes. Paint them as different types of cars and other traffic things such as stop lights and stop signs, trees, fences , etc. Place them in the dirt and play can begin!
